The 2016 Lexus Design Awards (LDA) was the fourth installment of the annual international design competition targeting up-and-coming creators from around the world whose work contributes to shaping a better future for all. Under the theme ‘anticipating the needs of people and society’, this year’s winning design was from AMAM, a trio of designers who banded together and who were awarded the Grand Prix title with their concept, Agar Plasticity. The contest is a unique opportunity for four of the selected finalists to work with globally recognised designers as mentors to design full prototypes of their designs. As one of its core principals, Lexus’ engineers and designers have always strived to develop products and services that anticipate the needs of people and society. For the Lexus Design Awards, only innovative designs and unique interpretations that are true to the essence of that theme made the grade. Out of the 1 232 works submitted from 73 countries, 12 entries were chosen, four of which were ultimately selected to produce prototypes of their designs under the mentorship of globally recognised creators.
