39 Nelisiwe Maseko, Assistant Manager of Marketing Planning at Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM), tells us why she loves her car. Tell us about your car. I got my lovely Yaris in May this year. It is the latest specification two-tone with a black roof and an eyecatching pearl-white body. What do you like about it most? Everything, from the colour to the aggressive X-design dominating the front fascia, and the daytime running lights that emphasise its striking beauty. It is spacious and very comfortable to drive. I love the host of standard features it comes with, such as the 6.1” touch screen. Then there’s the convenience of taking calls and controlling my music from the steering wheel. That’s priceless! How often do you clean it? This baby is well taken care of; it gets a proper wash every week – and I used to wash my previous car only twice a month. I like the stares and the attention my Yaris draws when it’s in such pristine condition. What does the Yaris say about you? It mirrors my personality. It says I am a very friendly and fun-loving person who likes to look good on the road. My car brings that message across unequivocally. On Nelisiwe’s USB, which she plays in her car all the time: August Alsina > Testimony, This thing called life Byson Tiller > Trapsoul Nicki Minaj > Pink Friday, The pinkprint Rihanna > Music of the sun, Good girl gone bad, Unapologetic, Loud, Anti Jhene Aiko > Sail out, Souled out Anthony Hamilton > Back to love, Home for the holidays Syleena Johnson > Chapter, Love pain and forgiveness Alicia Keys > Songs in the mirror, The diary Rick Ross > Rise to power, Deeper than rap, God forgives i don’t, Mastermind The Game > Jesus piece, Untold story J-Cole > Born sinner, Forest hills drive The Weekend > Beauty behind the madness YARIS Who would be your ideal passenger? I enjoy travelling with talkative people because I have the gift of the gab, and would hate dominating the conversation. I also like spontaneous and open-minded people – just in case we have to make an unexpected stop somewhere. Most importantly, they have to love music, especially hip-hop. I cannot be in a car where there is no music. It has six speakers and my music is always on full blast. So, if we get tired of talking, we just turn it up! What are your favourite hangout spots? That’s an interesting one. I love Jozi’s markets. Most weekends you’d find me at Neighbourgoods Market, Arts on Main in Maboneng, the Fourways Farmers Market, Melville, or Chaf-Pozi in Soweto. And your most memorable road trip? I have only had my car for a short while, although I recently went home to Bethlehem, which is almost 300km away from Johannesburg. The Yaris performed perfectly and I enjoyed the comfortable, long drive. My family had no idea that I had bought a new car; I think they were more excited than I was. They did not stop praising the Yaris, especially the colour and the overall interior styling. What do you enjoy listening to? My favourite radio station is Metro FM, especially the Breakfast Show. It is the perfect accompaniment to my morning commute to work. When it comes to music, I listen to most genres, but would say hip-hop and R&B stand out as my favourites. Your next car? I am not sure yet, but it must be a Toyota on steroids. Maybe a smallanyana SUV! ABOVE: TSAM’s Assistant Manager of Marketing Planning, Nelisiwe Maseko, shows off her brandnew Yaris. ME AND MY
